# §594. Protection of timber owned by United States from fire, disease, or insect ravages


The [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior is authorized to protect and [preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2), from fire, disease, or the ravages of beetles, or other insects, timber owned by the United States upon the [public lands](/usc/16/620e.md?p=7), national [parks](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3), national monuments, Indian reservations, or other lands under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior owned by the United States, either directly or in cooperation with other departments of the Federal Government, with [States](/usc/16/544.md?p=r), or with [owners](/usc/16/429b–3.md?p=4) of timber; and appropriations are authorized to be made for such purposes.
