# §5725. Administrative matters

- (a) **Compensation—** [Panel](/usc/16/5702.md?p=2) members and alternate [Panel](/usc/16/5702.md?p=2) members who are not [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) or Federal employees shall receive compensation at the daily rate of GS–15 of the General Schedule when engaged in the actual performance of duties.
- (b) **Travel and other necessary expenses—** Travel and other necessary expenses shall be paid by the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior for all [Panel](/usc/16/5702.md?p=2) members, alternate [Panel](/usc/16/5702.md?p=2) members, and members of any [advisory committee](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=1) established under [section 5722 of this title](/usc/16/5722.md) when engaged in the actual performance of duties.
- (c) **Treatment as Federal employees—** Except for officials of the United States Government, all [Panel](/usc/16/5702.md?p=2) members, alternate [Panel](/usc/16/5702.md?p=2) members, and members of any [advisory committee](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=1) established under [section 5722 of this title](/usc/16/5722.md) shall not be considered to be Federal employees while engaged in the actual performance of duties, except for the purposes of injury compensation or tort claims liability as provided in [chapter 81](/usc/5/chptIII/sptG/ch81.md) of title 5 and [chapter 71](/usc/16/chch71.md)[^1] of title 28.
