# §4916. Relationship to State law


Nothing in this chapter may be construed as precluding the regulation under [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) law of the sale, transfer, or possession of [exotic birds](/usc/16/4903.md?p=2) if such regulation—

- (1) does not authorize any sale, transfer, or possession of [exotic birds](/usc/16/4903.md?p=2) that is prohibited under this chapter; and
- (2) is consistent with the international obligations of the [United States](/usc/16/4903.md?p=8).
