# §460s. Establishment


In order to [preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2) for the benefit, inspiration, education, recreational use, and enjoyment of the public a significant portion of the diminishing shoreline of the United States and its related geographic and scientific features, the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior (hereinafter referred to as the “[Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1)”) is authorized to [take](/usc/16/3102.md?p=18) appropriate action, as herein provided, to establish in the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Michigan the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
