# §460r. Establishment


In order to provide for the public outdoor recreation use and enjoyment of the [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) in the vicinity of Mount Rogers, the highest mountain in the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Virginia, and to the extent feasible the conservation of scenic, scientific, historic, and other values of the [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A), the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of Agriculture shall establish the Mount Rogers National Recreation [Area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) in the Jefferson National Forest in the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Virginia.
