# §460nnn–64. Treatment of wilderness study areas

- (a) **Status unaffected—** Except as provided in [section 460nnn–92 of this title](/usc/16/460nnn–92.md), any [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A), or portion of a [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A), within the boundaries of the [Cooperative Management and Protection Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=3), but not included in the [Wilderness Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=10), shall remain a [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) notwithstanding the enactment of this subchapter.
- (b) **Management—** The [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) referred to in [subsection (a)](#a) shall continue to be managed under [section 1782(c) of title 43](/usc/43/1782.md?p=c) in a manner so as not to impair the suitability of the [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) for preservation as [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13).
- (c) **Expansion of Basque Hills Wilderness Study Area—** The boundaries of the Basque Hills [Wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) Study [Area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) are hereby expanded to include the [Federal lands](/usc/16/620e.md?p=2) within sections [8](/usc/16/8.md), [16](/usc/16/16.md), [17](/usc/16/17.md), [21](/usc/16/21.md), [22](/usc/16/22.md), and 27 of township 36 south, range 31 east, Willamette Meridian. These lands shall be managed under [section 1782(c) of title 43](/usc/43/1782.md?p=c) to protect and enhance the [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) values of these lands.
