# §460nnn–24. Land acquisition authority

- (a) **Acquisition—**
  - (1) **Acquisition authorized—** In [addition](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-2) to the land [acquisitions](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) authorized by part F, the [Secretary](/usc/16/460iii–1.md?p=1) may [acquire](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) other non-[Federal lands](/usc/16/620e.md?p=2) and interests in lands located within the boundaries of the [Cooperative Management and Protection Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=3) or the [Wilderness Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=10).
  - (2) **Acquisition methods—** Lands may be acquired under this subsection only by voluntary exchange, donation, or purchase from willing sellers.
- (b) **Treatment of acquired lands—**
  - (1) **In general—** Subject to paragraphs [(2)](#b-2) and [(3)](#b-3), lands or interests in lands acquired under [subsection (a)](#a) or part F that are located within the boundaries of the [Cooperative Management and Protection Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=3) shall—
    - (A) become part of the [Cooperative Management and Protection Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=3); and
    - (B) be managed pursuant to the laws applicable to the [Cooperative Management and Protection Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=3).
  - (2) **Lands within Wilderness Area—** If lands or interests in lands acquired under [subsection (a)](#a) or part F are within the boundaries of the [Wilderness Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=10), the acquired lands or interests in lands shall—
    - (A) become part of the [Wilderness Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=10); and
    - (B) be managed pursuant to part B and the other laws applicable to the [Wilderness Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=10).
  - (3) **Lands within wilderness study area—** If the lands or interests in lands acquired under [subsection (a)](#a) or part F are within the boundaries of a [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A), the acquired lands or interests in lands shall—
    - (A) become part of that [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A); and
    - (B) be managed pursuant to the laws applicable to that [wilderness](/usc/16/3102.md?p=13) study [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A).
- (c) **Appraisal—** In appraising non-[Federal land](/usc/16/3102.md?p=2), development rights, or [conservation easements](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=4-A) for possible [acquisition](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) under this section or [section 460nnn–42 of this title](/usc/16/460nnn–42.md), the [Secretary](/usc/16/460iii–1.md?p=1) shall disregard any adverse impacts on values resulting from the designation of the [Cooperative Management and Protection Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=3) or the [Wilderness Area](/usc/16/460nnn.md?p=10).
