# §460aaa–4. Fish and game

- (a) **In general—** Nothing in this subchapter shall be construed as affecting the responsibilities of the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Michigan with respect to [fish and wildlife](/usc/16/3102.md?p=17), including the regulation of hunting, fishing, and trapping in any lands acquired and managed by the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) under this subchapter, except that the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) may, in consultation with the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Michigan, designate zones where, and establish periods when, no hunting, fishing or trapping shall be permitted for reasons of public safety, administration, the protection of nongame species and their habitats, or public use and enjoyment.
- (b) **Notice of Secretarial action—** As soon as practicable after each case in which the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) exercises authority under [subsection (a)](#a), the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1), in consultation with appropriate officials of the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Michigan, shall [take](/usc/16/3102.md?p=18) steps to notify [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) residents as to the nature of actions taken, and the location of zones designated and periods established, under [subsection (a)](#a).
- (c) **Consultation—** Except in emergencies, any regulations of the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) pursuant to this section shall be put into effect after consultation with the [fish and wildlife](/usc/16/3102.md?p=17) agency of the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) of Michigan.
