# §459c. Point Reyes National Seashore; purposes; authorization for establishment


In order to save and [preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2), for purposes of public recreation, benefit, and inspiration, a portion of the diminishing seashore of the United States that remains undeveloped, the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior (hereinafter referred to as the “[Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1)”) is authorized to [take](/usc/16/3102.md?p=18) appropriate action in the public interest toward the establishment of the national seashore set forth in [section 459c–1 of this title](/usc/16/459c–1.md).
