# §450dd. De Soto National Memorial; establishment


For the purpose of establishing an appropriate [memorial](/usc/16/450ss–1.md?p=2) to Hernando De Soto, the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior is authorized, in his discretion, to [acquire](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) on behalf of the United States, by donation, by purchase with donated funds when purchaseable[^1] at prices deemed by him reasonable, or by condemnation with donated funds, such lands and interests in land within an [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) of not to exceed thirty acres as he may select in the vicinity of Tampa Bay and Bradenton, Florida, and to construct thereon a suitable [memorial](/usc/16/450ss–1.md?p=2) structure, together with such connecting roads and public facilities as may be desirable.
