# §430ff. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park; establishment


When not less than five hundred acres of the non-[Federal lands](/usc/16/620e.md?p=2) hereinafter described (together with improvements thereon) and known as the Horseshoe Bend Battle Ground on the Tallapoosa River, in the [State](/usc/16/6456.md?p=2) of Alabama, shall have been acquired and transferred free and clear of all encumbrances to the United States without expense to the Federal Government, such [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) shall be, and are hereby, dedicated and set apart as a [unit](/usc/16/430f–7.md?p=4) of the [National Park](/usc/16/410hhh–1.md?p=5) [System](/usc/16/668ee.md?p=14) for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of the United States, under the name of the Horseshoe Bend National Military [Park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3).


# §430gg. Determination of desirable areas


The [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior is authorized and directed to make an examination of the Horseshoe Bend Battle Ground with a view to determining the [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) or [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) thereof deemed desirable for inclusion in the Horseshoe Bend National Military [Park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3) and which, except for not more than twenty acres of any other lands adjacent to such battleground found by the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) to be necessary to carry out the provisions of [sections 430ff to 430jj](/usc/16/430ff..430jj.md) of this title, lie within the lands particularly described as follows: Sections [13](/usc/16/13.md), [14](/usc/16/14.md), [15](/usc/16/15.md), [22](/usc/16/22.md), and [23](/usc/16/23.md), all township 23 north, range 23 east, Saint Stephens meridian.


# §430hh. Administration, protection, and development; improvements

- (a) The [National Park](/usc/16/410hhh–1.md?p=5) Service, under the direction of the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior, shall administer, protect, and develop the [park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3), subject to the provisions of the Act entitled “An Act to establish a [National Park](/usc/16/410hhh–1.md?p=5) Service, and for other purposes”, approved August 25, 1916 (39 Stat. 535),[^1] as amended.
- (b) In order to provide for the proper development and maintenance of the [park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3), the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of the Interior shall construct and maintain therein such roads, trails, markers, buildings, and other improvements, and such facilities for the care and accommodation of visitors, as he may deem necessary.

# §430ii. Dedication


[Sections 430ff to 430jj](/usc/16/430ff..430jj.md) of this title shall become effective if and when the requirements of sections [430ff](/usc/16/430ff.md) and [430gg](/usc/16/430gg.md) of this title shall have been fully complied with to the satisfaction of the President of the United States, who shall then issue a notice declaring that the requirements herein have been met, and said notice shall formally dedicate and set aside the [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) transferred to the United States in accordance with the provisions of [section 430ff of this title](/usc/16/430ff.md).


# §430jj. Authorization of appropriations


There are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of [sections 430ff to 430jj](/usc/16/430ff..430jj.md) of this title.
