# §4203. Statement of policy


It is the policy of the [United States](/usc/16/4244.md?p=12)—

- (1) to assist in the conservation and protection of the [African elephant](/usc/16/4244.md?p=1) by supporting the conservation programs of African countries and the [CITES](/usc/16/4244.md?p=2) Secretariat; and
- (2) to provide financial resources for those programs.
