# §410ww–24. Staff of Commission

- (a) **Director—** The [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) shall have a Director who shall be appointed by the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c).
- (b) **Additional personnel—** The [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) may appoint and fix the pay of such additional personnel as the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) deems necessary. Such staff may include specialists in [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) such as interpretation, historic preservation, black history and literature, aviation history and technology, and urban revitalization.
- (c) **Temporary services—** Subject to such rules as may be adopted by the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c), the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) may procure temporary and intermittent services to the same extent as is authorized by [section 3109(b) of title 5](/usc/5/3109.md?p=b), but at rates determined by the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) to be reasonable.
- (d) **Detail—** Upon request of the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c), the head of any Federal agency represented by a member on the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) may detail, on a reimbursable basis, any of the personnel of such agency to the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) to assist it in carrying out its duties under this subchapter.
- (e) **Administrative support—** The [Administrator](/usc/16/450rr–1.md?p=a) of the General Services Administration shall provide to the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) on a reimbursable basis such administrative support services as the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) may request.
- (f) **State and local services—** The [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) may accept the services of personnel detailed from the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) or any political [subdivision](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=15) of the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) and may reimburse the [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) or such political [subdivision](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=15) for such services.
- (g) **Inapplicability of certain provisions of title 5—** The director and staff of the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c) may be appointed without regard to the provisions of [title 5](/usc/5.md) governing appointments in the competitive service, and may be paid without regard to the provisions of [chapter 51](/usc/16/ch51.md) and subchapter III of [chapter 53](/usc/16/ch53.md) of such title relating to classification and General Schedule pay rates, except that no individual so appointed may receive pay in excess of the annual rate of basic pay payable for grade GS–15 of the General Schedule.
