# §403g. Establishment; minimum area


An [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) of four hundred thousand acres within the minimum boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National [Park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3), acquired one-half by the peoples and [States](/usc/16/544.md?p=r) of North Carolina and Tennessee, and the United States, and one-half by the Laura Spelman Rockefeller [Memorial](/usc/16/450ss–1.md?p=2) in memory of Laura Spelman Rockefeller, is established as a completed [park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3) for administration, protection, and development by the United States.
