# §3201. Administration of national preserves


A National [Preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2) in Alaska shall be administered and managed as a [unit](/usc/16/430f–7.md?p=4) of the National [Park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3) System in the same manner as a national [park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3) except as otherwise provided in this Act and except that the [taking](/usc/16/3102.md?p=18) of [fish and wildlife](/usc/16/3102.md?p=17) for sport purposes and subsistence uses, and trapping shall be allowed in a national [preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2) under applicable [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) and Federal law and regulation. Consistent with the provisions of [section 3126 of this title](/usc/16/3126.md), within national [preserves](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2) the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) may designate zones where and periods when no hunting, fishing, trapping, or entry may be permitted for reasons of public safety, administration, floral and faunal protection, or public use and enjoyment. Except in emergencies, any regulations prescribing such restrictions relating to hunting, fishing, or trapping shall be put into effect only after consultation with the appropriate [State](/usc/16/590q.md?p=a) agency having responsibility over hunting, fishing, and trapping activities.
