# §3194. Archeological and paleontological sites


Notwithstanding any acreage or boundary limitations contained in this Act with respect to the Cape Krusenstern National Monument, the Bering Land Bridge National [Preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2), the Yukon-Charley Rivers National [Preserve](/usc/16/698u–1.md?p=2), and the Kobuk Valley National [Park](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-3), the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) may designate [Federal lands](/usc/16/620e.md?p=2) or he may [acquire](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) by purchase with the consent of the [owner](/usc/16/429b–3.md?p=4), donation, or exchange any significant archeological or paleontological site in Alaska located outside of the boundaries of such [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) and containing resources which are closely associated with any such [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A). If any such site is so designated or acquired, it shall be included in and managed as part of such [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A). Not more than seven thousand five hundred acres of land may be designated or acquired under this section for inclusion in any single [area](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A). Before designation or [acquisition](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) of any property in excess of one hundred acres under the provisions of this section, the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) shall—

- (1) submit notice of such proposed designation or [acquisition](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) to the appropriate committees of the Congress; and
- (2) publish notice of such proposed designation or [acquisition](/usc/16/620e.md?p=1) in the Federal Register.
