# §1154. Scientific research on fur seal resources; use of fur seals for educational, scientific, or exhibition purposes


The [Secretary](/usc/16/1151.md?p=l) shall (1) conduct such scientific research and investigations on the [fur seal](/usc/16/1151.md?p=d) resources of the [North Pacific Ocean](/usc/16/1151.md?p=g) as he deems necessary to carry out the obligations of the United States under the [Convention](/usc/16/1151.md?p=b), and (2) permit, subject to such terms and conditions as he deems desirable, the [taking](/usc/16/3102.md?p=18), transportation, importation, exportation, or possession of [fur seals](/usc/16/1151.md?p=d) or their parts for educational, scientific, or exhibition purposes.
