# §6552. Public awareness campaign


The Federal Trade [Commission](/usc/15/6555.md?p=1) shall carry out a nationwide program to increase public awareness and provide education regarding strategies to promote the safe use of the [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2) by children. The program shall utilize existing resources and efforts of the Federal Government, [State](/usc/15/15g.md?p=2) and [local governments](/usc/15/34.md?p=1), nonprofit organizations, private technology and financial companies, [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2) service providers, World Wide Web-based resources, and other appropriate entities, that includes—

- (1) identifying, promoting, and encouraging best practices for [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2) safety;
- (2) establishing and carrying out a national outreach and education campaign regarding [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2) safety utilizing various media and [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2)-based resources;
- (3) facilitating access to, and the exchange of, information regarding [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2) safety to promote up-to-date knowledge regarding current issues; and
- (4) facilitating access to [Internet](/usc/15/6555.md?p=2) safety education and public awareness efforts the [Commission](/usc/15/6555.md?p=1) considers appropriate by [States](/usc/15/15g.md?p=2), units of [local government](/usc/15/34.md?p=1), schools, police departments, nonprofit organizations, and other appropriate entities.
