# §1692o. Exemption for State regulation


The [Bureau](/usc/15/1692a.md?p=1) shall by regulation exempt from the requirements of this subchapter any class of [debt](/usc/15/1692a.md?p=5) collection practices within any [State](/usc/15/1692a.md?p=8) if the [Bureau](/usc/15/1692a.md?p=1) determines that under the law of that [State](/usc/15/1692a.md?p=8) that class of [debt](/usc/15/1692a.md?p=5) collection practices is subject to requirements substantially similar to those imposed by this subchapter, and that there is adequate provision for enforcement.
