# §2219e. Liability for making criminal referrals

- (a) **In general—** Any [institution](/usc/12/2271.md?p=3) of the Farm [Credit](/usc/12/5481.md?p=7) System, or any [director](/usc/12/2279bb.md?p=3), officer, employee, or agent of a Farm [Credit](/usc/12/5481.md?p=7) [System institution](/usc/12/2271.md?p=3), that discloses to a Government authority information proffered in good faith that may be relevant to a possible [violation](/usc/12/2271.md?p=2) of any law or regulation shall not be liable to any [person](/usc/12/5481.md?p=19) under any law of the United States or any [State](/usc/12/2277a.md?p=5)—
  - (1) for the disclosure; or
  - (2) for any failure to notify the [person](/usc/12/5481.md?p=19) involved in the possible [violation](/usc/12/2271.md?p=2).
- (b) **No prohibition on disclosure—** Any [institution](/usc/12/2271.md?p=3) of the Farm [Credit](/usc/12/5481.md?p=7) System, or any [director](/usc/12/2279bb.md?p=3), officer, employee, or agent of a Farm [Credit](/usc/12/5481.md?p=7) [System institution](/usc/12/2271.md?p=3), may disclose information to a Government authority that may be relevant to a possible [violation](/usc/12/2271.md?p=2) of any law or regulation.
