# §8743. Employment of aliens


Laws prohibiting payment of compensation to a person who is not a citizen of the [United States](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-1) do not apply to a person whose employment by the [Department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6) of the [Navy](/usc/10/8001.md?p=a-1) is determined by the [Secretary](/usc/10/8720.md?p=4) of the [Navy](/usc/10/8001.md?p=a-1) to be necessary to obtain for the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) the benefits of the special technical or scientific knowledge or experience possessed by that person and not readily obtainable from a citizen.
