# §807. Art. 7. Apprehension

- (a) Apprehension is the taking of a [person](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) into custody.
- (b) Any [person](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) authorized under regulations governing the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) to apprehend [persons](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) subject to this chapter or to trial thereunder may do so upon reasonable belief that an offense has been committed and that the [person](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) apprehended committed it.
- (c) [Commissioned officers](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-2), [warrant officers](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-3), petty [officers](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-1), and noncommissioned officers have authority to quell quarrels, frays, and disorders among [persons](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) subject to this chapter and to apprehend [persons](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) subject to this chapter who take part therein.

In subsection (c), the words “All” and “shall” are omitted as surplusage. The word “Commissioned” is inserted before the word “officers” for clarity. The word “therein” is substituted for the words “in the same”.
