# §515. Reenlistment after discharge as warrant officer


A [person](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) who has been discharged from a [regular](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-12) [component](/usc/10/3011.md?p=13) of an armed force under section [1165](/usc/10/1165.md) or [1166](/usc/10/1166.md) of this title may, upon his request and in the discretion of the [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-5), be enlisted in that armed force in the [grade](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-7) prescribed by the [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3). However, a [person](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) discharged under [section 1165 of this title](/usc/10/1165.md) may not be enlisted in a [grade](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-7) lower than the [grade](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-7) that he held immediately before appointment as a [warrant officer](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-3).
