# §399. Notifications relating to military operations in the information environment: requirement to notify Chief of Mission


The [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3) may not authorize a [military](/usc/10/801.md?p=8) operation in the information [environment](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) under this title intended to cause an effect in a country unless the [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3) fully informs the chief of mission for that country under section 207 of the Foreign Service Act of 1980 ([22 U.S.C. 3927](/usc/22/3927.md)) of the planned operation.
