# §2872. General authority


In addition to any other authority provided under this chapter for the acquisition or [construction](/usc/10/2871.md?p=3) of [military](/usc/10/801.md?p=8) family housing or [military unaccompanied housing](/usc/10/2871.md?p=11), the [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-5) may exercise any authority or any combination of authorities provided under this subchapter in order to provide for the acquisition or [construction](/usc/10/2871.md?p=3) by [eligible entities](/usc/10/2871.md?p=5) of the following:

- (1) Family [housing units](/usc/10/2871.md?p=8) on or near [military installations](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-4) within the [United States](/usc/10/2871.md?p=13) and its territories and [possessions](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-3), including such units for civilian employees of the [Department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6) of Defense and defense contractors.
- (2) [Military unaccompanied housing](/usc/10/2871.md?p=11) units on or near such [military installations](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-4).
