# §20604. Enlisted members: computation of years of service for voluntary retirement

- (a) **Years of Active Service.—** For the purpose of determining whether an [enlisted member](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-6) of the Space Force may be retired under [section 20603 of this title](/usc/10/20603.md), the member’s years of service are computed by adding all [active service](/usc/10/101.md?p=d-3) in the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4).
- (b) **Reference to Section Excluding Counting of Certain Service Required to Be Made up.—** Time required to be made up under [section 972(a) of this title](/usc/10/972.md?p=a) may not be counted in computing years of service under [subsection (a)](#a).
