# §1800. Definitions


In this subchapter:

- (1) The term “military child development center” means a [facility](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) on a [military installation](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-4) (or on property under the jurisdiction of the commander of a [military installation](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-4)) at which [child](/usc/10/1072.md?p=6) care services are provided for members of the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) or any other [facility](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) at which such [child](/usc/10/1072.md?p=6) care services are provided that is operated by the [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3) of a [military](/usc/10/801.md?p=8) [department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6).
- (2) The term “family home day care” means home-based [child](/usc/10/1072.md?p=6) care services that are provided for members of the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) by an individual who (A) is certified by the [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3) of the [military](/usc/10/801.md?p=8) [department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6) concerned as qualified to provide those services, and (B) provides those services on a [regular](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-12) basis for compensation.
- (3) The term “child care employee” means a civilian employee of the [Department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6) of Defense who is employed to work in a [military child development center](#1) (regardless of whether the employee is paid from appropriated funds or nonappropriated funds).
- (4) The term “child care fee receipts” means those nonappropriated funds that are derived from fees paid by members of the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) for [child](/usc/10/1072.md?p=6) care services provided at [military child development centers](#1).
