# §1524. Posthumous commissions and warrants: determination of date of death


For the purposes of sections [1521](/usc/10/1521.md) and [1522](/usc/10/1522.md) of this title, in any case where the date of death is established or determined under [section 551–558 of title 37](https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=(/us/usc/t37/s551–558)), the date of death is the date the [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-5) receives evidence that the [person](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) is dead, or the date the finding of death is made under [section 555 of title 37](/usc/37/555.md).
