# §12307. Retired Reserve


A member in the Retired [Reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) may, if qualified, be ordered to [active duty](/usc/10/101.md?p=d-1) without his consent, but only as provided in section [688](/usc/10/688.md) or [12301(a)](/usc/10/12301.md?p=a) of this title. A member of the Retired [Reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) (other than a member transferred to the Retired [Reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) under [section 12641(b) of this title](/usc/10/12641.md?p=b)) who is ordered to [active duty](/usc/10/101.md?p=d-1) or other appropriate duty in a retired status may be credited under [chapter 1223](/usc/10/chstE/ptII/ch1223.md) of this title with service performed pursuant to such order. A member in a retired status is not eligible for promotion (or for consideration for promotion) as a [Reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6).
