# §12002. Authorized strengths: Army and Air Force reserve components, exclusive of members on active duty

- (a) The [authorized strengths](/usc/10/101.md?p=b-11) of the [National Guard](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-1) and the [reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) components of the Army and the Air Force, exclusive of members who are included in the strengths authorized for members of the Army and Air Force, respectively, on [active duty](/usc/10/101.md?p=d-1), are as follows:

  | [Army National Guard](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-2) and the [Army National Guard of the United States](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-3) | 600,000 |
  | Army [Reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) | 980,000 |
  | [Air National Guard](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-4) and the [Air National Guard of the United States](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-5) | 150,000 |
  | Air Force [Reserve](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-6) | 500,000. |

- (b) The strength authorized by this section for the [Army National Guard](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-2) and the [Army National Guard of the United States](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-3), and the strength authorized by this section for the [Air National Guard](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-4) and the [Air National Guard of the United States](/usc/10/101.md?p=c-5), shall be allocated among the [States](/usc/10/18232.md?p=1).
