# §1090a. Identifying and treating eating disorders

- (a) **Identification, Treatment, and Rehabilitation.—** The [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3) of Defense, and the [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3) of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, shall prescribe regulations, implement procedures using each practical and available method, and provide necessary [facilities](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) to identify, treat, and rehabilitate members of the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) who have an eating disorder.
- (b) **Facilities Available.—**
  - (1) In this section, the term “necessary [facilities](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2)” [includes](/usc/10/101.md?p=g-4) [facilities](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) that provide the services specified in [section 1079(r)(1) of this title](/usc/10/1079.md?p=r-1).
  - (2) Consistent with [section 1079(r)(1)(B) of this title](/usc/10/1079.md?p=r-1-B), residential services shall be provided to a member pursuant to this section only if the member has a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder and treatment at such [facility](/usc/10/2700.md?p=2) is medically indicated for treatment of that eating disorder.
- (c) **Eating Disorder Defined.—** In this section, the term “eating disorder” has the meaning given that term in [section 1079(r) of this title](/usc/10/1079.md?p=r).
