# §1057. Use of armed forces insignia on State license plates

- (a) The [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-5) may approve an application by a [State](/usc/10/4951.md?p=4) to use or imitate the seal or other insignia of the [department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6) (under the jurisdiction of such [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3)) or of [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) (under the jurisdiction of such [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3)) on motor vehicle license plates issued by the [State](/usc/10/4951.md?p=4) to an individual who is a member or former member of the [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4).
- (b) The [Secretary concerned](/usc/10/2801.md?p=c-5) may prescribe any regulations necessary regarding the display of the seal or other insignia of the [department](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-6) (under the jurisdiction of such [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3)) or of [armed forces](/usc/10/101.md?p=a-4) (under the jurisdiction of such [Secretary](/usc/10/4951.md?p=3)) on the license plates described in [subsection (a)](#a).
- (c) In this section, the term “[State](/usc/10/4951.md?p=4)” [includes](/usc/10/101.md?p=g-4) the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.
