# §29.42. What authorization do I need to conduct operations?

- (a) You must demonstrate to the Service that you have the right to operate in order to conduct operations on Service-administered lands or waters.
- (b) Except as provided in §§ [29.43](/cfr/50/29.43.md) or [29.44](/cfr/50/29.44.md), before starting operations, you must obtain a temporary access permit under [§§ 29.70 through 29.73](/cfr/50/29.70..29.73.md) for reconnaissance surveys and/or an operations permit under [§§ 29.90 through 29.97](/cfr/50/29.90..29.97.md).
