# §12.52. Can I file a petition for remission for my abandoned property?

You may file a petition for remission of abandoned property with the Service and seek the return of property you had voluntarily abandoned, within the time period described in [§ 12.33](/cfr/50/12.33.md). If you have agreed to abandon property, your right to seek relief is limited to whatever process expressly was reserved in the abandonment document you signed.
