# §337.301. Coverage and purpose.


This subpart implements the category rating and selection procedures at [5 U.S.C. 3319](/usc/5/3319.md). This law authorizes agencies with delegated examining authority under [5 U.S.C. 1104(a)(2)](/usc/5/1104.md?p=a-2) to develop a category rating method as an alternative process to assess applicants for jobs filled through competitive examining.
