# §801.12. Protection of records.


No person may, without permission, remove from the place where it is made available any record made available for inspection or copying under [§ 801.10(c)](/cfr/49/801.10.md?p=c). Removing, concealing, altering, mutilating, obliterating, or destroying, in whole or in part, such a record is deemed a criminal offense pursuant to 18 U.S.C. [641](/usc/18/641.md), [2071(a)](/usc/18/2071.md?p=a).
