# §625.1. Purpose.


This part carries out the mandate of [49 U.S.C. 5326](/usc/49/5326.md) for transit asset management. This part establishes a National Transit Asset Management (TAM) System to monitor and manage public transportation capital assets to enhance safety, reduce maintenance costs, increase reliability, and improve performance.
