# §595.9. Automatic emergency braking.

A manufacturer, dealer, or motor vehicle repair business that modifies a vehicle owned by a law enforcement agency to provide a means to temporarily deactivate an AEB system is exempted from the “make inoperative” prohibition in [49 U.S.C. 30122](/usc/49/30122.md) to the extent that such modification affects the motor vehicle's compliance with [49 CFR 571.127](/cfr/49/571.127.md), S5.4.2. Modifications that would take a vehicle out of compliance with any other Federal motor vehicle safety standards, or portions thereof, are not covered by this exemption.
