# §9.1. Purpose.


The purpose of this part is to set forth the 911, E911, and Next Generation 911 service requirements and conditions applicable to telecommunications carriers ([subpart B](/cfr/47/subpartB.md)); commercial mobile radio service (CMRS) providers ([subpart C](/cfr/47/subpartC.md)); interconnected Voice over internet Protocol (VoIP) providers ([subpart D](/cfr/47/subpartD.md)); internet-based providers of telecommunications relay services (TRS) for persons with disabilities ([subpart E](/cfr/47/subpartE.md)); multi-line telephone systems (MLTS) ([subpart F](/cfr/47/subpartF.md)); and Mobile-Satellite Service (MSS) providers ([subpart G](/cfr/47/subpartG.md)). The rules in this part also include requirements to help ensure the resiliency, redundancy, and reliability of 911 communications systems ([subpart H](/cfr/47/subpartH.md)), acceptable obligations and expenditures of 911 fees ([subpart I](/cfr/47/subpartI.md)), and Next Generation 911 obligations ([subpart J](/cfr/47/subpartJ.md)).
