# §67.205. Requirement for vessel identification.

- (a) Every instrument presented for filing and recording must contain sufficient information to clearly identify the vessel(s) to which the instrument relates.
- (b) Instruments pertaining to vessels which have been documented must contain the vessel's name and official number, or other unique identifier.
- (c) Vessels which have never been documented must be identified by one of the following:
  - (1) The vessel's Hull Identification Number assigned in accordance with [33 CFR 181.25](/cfr/33/181.25.md); or
  - (2) **Other descriptive information, which clearly describes the vessel.** Such information may include length, breadth, depth, year of build, name of manufacturer, and any numbers which may have been assigned in accordance with [33 CFR part 173](/cfr/33/part173.md).
