# §143.580. Alternative electrical installations.


In lieu of meeting the requirements of [§§ 143.555 through 143.575](/cfr/46/143.555..143.575.md), a vessel may meet the following:

- (a) ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels Under 90 Meters (295 Feet) in Length (incorporated by reference, see [§ 136.112](/cfr/46/136.112.md) of this subchapter), [Part 4](/cfr/46/part4.md), Chapter 6; or
- (b) ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels for Service on Rivers and Intracoastal Waterways (incorporated by reference, see [§ 136.112](/cfr/46/136.112.md) of this subchapter), [Part 4](/cfr/46/part4.md), Chapter 5, if they operate exclusively on rivers or intracoastal waterways.
