# §85.2301. Applicability.


The definitions provided by this subpart are effective February 23, 1995 and apply to all motor vehicles regulated under [40 CFR part 86](/cfr/40/part86.md), [subpart S](/cfr/40/subpartS.md), and to highway motorcycles regulated under [40 CFR part 86](/cfr/40/part86.md), [subparts E](/cfr/40/subpartE.md) and F. The definitions and related provisions in 40 CFR parts [1036](/cfr/40/part1036.md), [1037](/cfr/40/part1037.md), and 1068 apply instead of the provisions in this subpart for heavy-duty motor vehicles and heavy-duty motor vehicle engines regulated under [40 CFR part 86](/cfr/40/part86.md), subpart [A](/cfr/40/subpartA.md), and [40](/cfr/40/subpart40.md) CFR parts [1036](/cfr/40/part1036.md) and [1037](/cfr/40/part1037.md).
