# §62.15940. How do I renew my lapsed operator qualification?


You must renew a lapsed operator qualification before you begin operation of an SSI unit by one of the two methods specified in paragraphs [(a)](#a) and [(b)](#b) of this section:

- (a) For a lapse of less than 3 years, you must complete a standard annual refresher course described in [§ 62.15935](/cfr/40/62.15935.md); and
- (b) For a lapse of 3 years or more, you must repeat the initial qualification requirements in [§ 62.15920](/cfr/40/62.15920.md).
