# §271.24. Interim authorization under section 3006(g) of RCRA.

- (a) Any State which is applying for or has been granted final authorization pursuant to [section 3006(b)](/cfr/40/3006.md?p=b) of RCRA may submit to the Administrator evidence that its program contains (or has been amended to include) any requirement which is substantially equivalent to a requirement identified in [§ 271.1(j)](/cfr/40/271.1.md?p=j) of this part. Such a State may request interim authorization under [section 3006(g)](/cfr/40/3006.md?p=g) of RCRA to carry out the State requirement in lieu of the Administrator carrying out the Federal requirement.
- (b) The applications shall be governed by the procedures for program revisions in [§ 271.21(b)](/cfr/40/271.21.md?p=b) of this part.
- (c) Interim authorization pursuant to this section expires on January 1, 2003, except that interim authorization for the revised Corrective Action Management Unit rule (except [40 CFR 264.555](/cfr/40/264.555.md)) promulgated on January 22, 2002 and cited in Table 1 in [§ 271.1](/cfr/40/271.1.md) expires on August 30, 2004 if the State has not submitted an application for final authorization.
