# §139.16. Desalination and purification systems.

- (a) The requirements in [paragraph (b)](#b) of this section apply to discharges from onboard desalination and purification systems used to generate freshwater from seawater or otherwise purify water.
- (b) The discharge resulting from the cleaning of desalination and purification systems with toxic or hazardous materials is prohibited.
