# §1036.543. Carbon balance error verification.


The optional carbon balance error verification in [40 CFR 1065.543](/cfr/40/1065.543.md) compares independent assessments of the flow of carbon through the system (engine plus aftertreatment). This procedure applies for each individual interval in §§ [1036.535(b)](/cfr/40/1036.535.md?p=b), [(c)](/cfr/40/1036.535.md?p=c), and [(d)](/cfr/40/1036.535.md?p=d), [1036.540](/cfr/40/1036.540.md), and [1036.545](/cfr/40/1036.545.md).
