# §447.12. Definitions.


The following definitions apply for purposes of this part.

- (a) **Postal Service.** The United States Postal Service as established by [39 U.S.C. 201](/usc/39/201.md).
- (b) **Employee.** An individual appointed to a position, temporary or permanent, within the Postal Service, or hired as an executive under an employment contract, including a substitute or a special employee as defined by [18 U.S.C. 202(a)](/usc/18/202.md?p=a). The term “employee” does not include the Governors of the Postal Service.
