# §324.1. General.


This regulation prescribes in addition to the general policies of [33 CFR part 320](/cfr/33/part320.md) and procedures of [33 CFR part 325](/cfr/33/part325.md), those special policies, practices and procedures to be followed by the Corps of Engineers in connection with the review of applications for Department of the Army (DA) permits to authorize the transportation of dredged material by vessel or other vehicle for the purpose of dumping it in ocean waters at dumping sites designated under [40 CFR part 228](/cfr/40/part228.md) pursuant to [section 103](/cfr/33/103.md) of the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act of 1972, as amended ([33 U.S.C. 1413](/usc/33/1413.md)) (hereinafter referred to as [section 103](/cfr/33/103.md)). See [33 CFR 320.2(h)](/cfr/33/320.2.md?p=h). Activities involving the transportation of dredged material for the purpose of dumping in the ocean waters also require DA permits under [Section 10](/cfr/33/10.md) of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 ([33 U.S.C. 403](/usc/33/403.md)) for the dredging in navigable waters of the United States. Applicants for DA permits under this part should also refer to [33 CFR part 322](/cfr/33/part322.md) to satisfy the requirements of [Section 10](/cfr/33/10.md).
