# §175.4. Responsibilities.

- (a) The General Counsel of the Department of Defense has been delegated the authorities and responsibilities of the Secretary of Defense under [section 330](/cfr/32/330.md) and [section 1502(e)](/cfr/32/1502.md?p=e), with certain limitations as to re-delegation.
- (b) The General Counsel has re-delegated the authority and responsibility to adjudicate requests for indemnification or defense and to process notices to DoD of a third-party claim under [section 330](/cfr/32/330.md) and [section 1502(e)](/cfr/32/1502.md?p=e) to the Deputy General Counsel or, when the position of Deputy General Counsel is vacant, the acting Deputy General Counsel. The authority to acknowledge receipt of a request has been delegated to an Associate General Counsel under the Deputy General Counsel.
