# §1.31. Sale or rental of mailing lists.

- (a) **In general.** An individual's name and address must not be sold or rented by a component unless such action is specifically authorized by law.
- (b) **Withholding of names and addresses.** This section must not be construed to require the withholding of names and addresses otherwise permitted to be made public. (See [5 U.S.C. 552a(n)](/usc/5/552a.md?p=n).)
